Orlando, Florida · Est. 1960s · Zip 32806
Lake Jewel Hills is a small, established residential community in the heart of Orlando — known for its mature trees, winding streets, distinctive mid-century homes, and a strong sense of neighborhood pride.
About the Neighborhood
Lake Jewel Hills is a small, established residential community located in Orlando's 32806 zip code. The neighborhood was developed in the 1960s and is platted as Plat Book Z, Page 33 in Orange County records. Its four streets — Claire Street, Jennie Jewel Drive, Osceola Avenue, and Brent Street — are lined with mature trees and well-maintained homes that reflect the character of the era.
What sets Lake Jewel Hills apart is its varied terrain. Unlike most of Central Florida, the neighborhood features hills and changes in elevation that give the streets a more rolling, wooded feel. The hills are part of the natural land grade running down to the lake. Many homes are split-level or multi-story, and some include lower-level living spaces that take advantage of the grade changes — an unusual feature for Florida construction.
The neighborhood sits near Lake Jennie Jewel, and a number of homes along Osceola Avenue have views of or proximity to the lake. It is a quiet, established community with long-term residents and a genuine sense of pride in the neighborhood.

Right here in our backyard, a group of neighbors is working to transform a long-neglected piece of Orlando history into something the entire community can enjoy for generations to come.
The Fort Gatlin Historical Group — made up of local residents — is advocating for the preservation and conversion of the former Navy Sound Lab site into a public park. The 9.13-acre property at 3909 S. Summerlin Avenue was gifted to Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) but has sat vacant, boarded up, and unmaintained for years. Before the Navy built the sound lab, this was the site of Fort Gatlin — the very place where Orlando began nearly 200 years ago.
The vision is a public park complete with educational displays, a waterfront path, family amenities, and preserved frontier and naval history. As Lake Jewel Hills neighbors, this effort directly affects our community. Two official meetings are coming up where your voice can make a real difference.
Join District 3 Commissioner Mayra Uribe, Orange County staff, and your neighbors. The applicant will present their request for a Special Exception to allow a new outdoor recreation park and answer your questions.
Official public hearing before the Orange County Board of Zoning Adjustment (BZA) — Case #SE-26-05-029. The BZA's recommendation will be forwarded to the Board of County Commissioners for final approval.
